Our Production Philosophy
Encouraging more sustainable consumption patterns by changing our overall attitude towards fashion starts at home. We believe durability is a key component in the environmental impact of a product. This is why our clothes are produced on a sustainable supply chain with high-quality fabrics to achieve a very long life cycle. In this way they can be worn by siblings, cousins, friends over and over again without fading or loosing shape. Sustainable and ethical fashion is an approach towards sourcing, manufacturing and designing clothes.
STEP 1
Sourcing materials- Fabrics – Colour Dyeing
You can count on LORANIQUE’S garments to be made from sustainable textiles, including certified organic cotton, recycled cotton and many others see more about our fabrics here link. All trims, labels and threads are either recycled or responsibly sourced.
We are conscious of the fact that the fabric dyeing process has an impact on the soil and on water pollution from finishing processes. Our dyehouse partners are compliant with the requirements and are certified by 3rd party textile safety certifications, such as STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® and GOTS. All the waste produced by the dyeing process is treated through special cleaning filters that retain any harmful substances. We ensure that effluent from the dyeing process is handled responsibly before it is released into the environment. Waste is disposed of in the appropriate environmentally friendly ways. This is done by meeting the EU quality requirements.
STEP 2
Zero or low waste manufacturing
Many of our designs are available in limited quantities because of the amount of fabric we are able to source. We wanted to reuse and repurpose fine quality fabrics that were made in excess. 50% of our products are made from remnant textiles that would be left unused or considered waste. We try to offset the production of new materials by restoring the utility of material already in circulation. Having given them a second life cycle by turning them into the beautiful and unique items you have in your hands.
STEP 3
Design
We design the garment in such a way to minimize the waste we produce ourselves and research into ways of recycling and reconditioning our materials thereby diverting waste from ending up in landfills. Since we want these products to be with you as long as possible, we strive to create designs that transcend seasonality and are so called timeless so that they can be given from one wearer to the next and still look new.
STEP 4
Management
Being a small company, we can and want to be involved in the entire step wise manufacturing supply chain from harvesting the raw material were possible, to the fiber made, to manufacturing the fabric, to coloring/printing, to sewing the garment and finally shipping it to you. We can therefore attest to high-quality construction in a safe and healthy environment under legal conditions and importantly fair wages, ensuring decent treatment of our workers. We believe in transparency and although we can not control our partners/suppliers we have long standing relationships with them and oversight over all business transactions and they have committed to our Code of Conduct. We abide by international quality assurance system guidelines so we can provide you with a final product that is of the highest industry and moral standards.
STEP 5
Sales
Since we are the manufacturer, we do not use a distribution center, minimizing transportation. It was a great challenge to find shipping companies with a sustainable focus in their business model. Your delivery is packaged from 100 % recycled materials, reused or recycled material or sustainably grown (paper hand tags and promotional material, carton boxes) we use Forest Stewardship Counsil (FSC) certified paper. All plastic packaging material is PVC free. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) resins are used but we are aiming to switch to materials that are biodegradable as we grow and our budget permits it. The bag contains no heavy metals or other harmful substances but is a choking hazards so keep the little ones away ! Your invoice will not be printed, but emailed to you.
